Rights & royalties
Licensing
The rule that shapes the whole platform.
Every track, video, and audio file on New Wave Born is uploaded by the rights-holding creator themselves.
We don't license major-label catalogues. We don't aggregate streams from elsewhere. The platform exists for independent artists from the Caribbean and African diaspora to publish their own work, get heard, and (when monetisation ships) get paid.
Rights attestation
Every upload requires a checkbox: "I own this recording, or I am authorised by the rights-holder. I understand that uploading anything I don't have the rights to may result in a permanent ban."
We log the attestation with the upload — your IP, the timestamp, and the file metadata. Repeat infringers are banned.
Your licence to us
When you upload, you grant New Wave Born a non-exclusive licence to host, stream, and embed your work for the duration it's on the platform. We don't claim any ownership. You can take your work down at any time and the licence ends.
We are not your manager, publisher, or label.
Royalties + payouts
Today the platform is free for listeners and we don't run ads, so there's no revenue to split. When subscriptions and ads ship in Phase 3, the artist payout split will be published here in detail. The headline rule: most of the revenue goes to the artists, calculated per-stream relative to total platform plays for the period.
Synchronisation, sampling, covers
If you want to license a track on New Wave Born for film, TV, ads, or any sync use, contact the artist directly via their profile page. We don't broker sync licences.
If you've covered or sampled someone else's work and want to upload your version, you must hold the appropriate mechanical / publishing licence yourself before uploading.
Takedowns
If you believe content on the platform infringes your rights, our DMCA workflow will get it taken down within 60 seconds of admin review.
